What is Fiverr? (Tutorial): Easily find & book services

First, we will clarify what Fiverr is exactly and how you can find and select the right service provider for your order. We will then go into detail on how to create an account and how booking an order works. Finally, we take a look at Fiverr Pro and the learning offer, which may be useful for you.

What is Fiverr?

Fiverr is basically the Amazon for services. Freelancers from all over the world offer many different services on the platform. Services in the field of design, text, video, animation, music, audio as well as programming and digital marketing are offered particularly often, but also unusual services such as family tree research, tarot card reading, dream analysis and the development of a party game can be booked on Fiverr. The difference between Fiverr and other freelancer platforms is that the services on Fiverr are defined in advance by the provider and are offered at a fixed price. You can order them like a physical product with one click. As with Amazon, you make an advance payment. If something goes wrong or you are dissatisfied with the service, you can cancel the order under certain circumstances and get your money back. Later more about that.

Find a service

Let’s say you have a specific service in mind, and now you want to find someone who offers it. To do this, you simply go to the Fiverr website. There you will be presented with a large search box. For example, if you want to offer tutoring, and you need a nice logo for your new website, you can enter “Logo Design” in the search field. The search results page will now show you all the services offered for your search term.

You will notice that the descriptions of the services are all in English and begin with “I will”, although you have set German as the page language above. This is due to the fact that Fiverr requires all service descriptions to begin with “I will” and recommends writing them in English. However, you can also have Fiverr automatically translate them into German with one click, directly above the search results.

Since logo design is the most offered service on Fiverr, you are spoiled for choice to find the right one for you from over 150,000 different offers. The many filter functions can help you. On the one hand, you can limit the category in which you are searching. In this case we choose logo design. If you already know which style your logo should have and in which file formats you need it in any case, you can also filter for it under logo options. We choose minimalist style. If you have set yourself a budget and need the logo by a certain date, you can also limit the search to that. After you have specified your search, you will get matching and very similar offers from different sellers.

Now it’s time to find the best seller for you. To make this easier, every seller on Fiverr has a seller level. This is based on their monthly performance. The more orders a seller has completed, the better their long-term rating, and the higher their response rate, order fulfillment rate, and delivery timeliness over a long period of time, the higher their seller level. In short, sellers with a high seller level are most likely to reliably deliver high-quality performance. What exactly a seller has to fulfill for the different seller levels, I have linked here. As a customer, you can filter the offers according to these levels under seller details. In addition, you can also select the language of the seller and his company headquarters. Especially if you are looking for text-related services, this filter will help you a lot.

Besides the seller levels, there are extra Pro services tested and certified by Fiverr. To become a Pro, a seller has to apply extra. Fiverr advertises that only 1% of applicants are approved as Pro. The approved Pros can therefore get paid very well for their services and often take advantage of this.

We limit our search to level 2 sellers, because we want to have an individual and high quality logo but are not willing to pay several hundred euros for it, as would be expected from a pro service. The language and the location of the designer are not relevant for us. Using the filter settings, we were able to reduce the offers from more than 150,000 to just over 4,000. For other not-so-popular services, these numbers are usually in much lower ranges, so it may be that only one page of offers remains after all the applied filters. Now we click on a few offers whose level and number of ratings appeals to us and whose sample logos on the offer thumbnails meet our quality standards.

On the detail page of an offer we can get an idea of the seller’s previous works. If we like the style of the previous works, it is a good sign. Presumably, we will then also like the service that the seller will provide for us.

In addition, we can see how many orders are in the queue of the seller. Reviews of the seller and a detailed description of his service, the so-called gig, we also see there, of course.

If we scroll further, at the bottom there is also a picture of the seller and a short text about the seller, based on which you can get a better idea of who is behind the service and whether you want to trust this person.

Below that, a table clearly shows the differences of the offered packages. Most often, one seller offers 3 packages:

On the right side you can see a short version of the packages and you can book your package there directly. For some services, such as Instagram posts, you also have the option to book them as a subscription. The advantage of this is that you get a discount. The service provider then delivers 2 posts every week, for example.

Create account & book a gig

We look at a few offers and save the best ones as favorites above the heart. For this we need a Fiverr account. Since we are not yet a member, we select “register now” at the bottom and then enter our email address. Now we are asked to enter a username and set a password. We do that and click Register. We receive an email from Fiverr in which we have to click on the link to confirm our email address.

After a few comparisons, we decided on one of the favored service providers and their standard package and now want to book it.

To do this, we select the package in the overview on the right and click continue. Now we can add extras, such as shortening the delivery time or additional revision. The extras vary depending on the service and the seller.

If we then want to continue to checkout, we will be asked to register with Fiverr if we are not already registered. We do this now by clicking on the link in the email. Otherwise, we would not be able to proceed with the checkout. Now we can choose between credit and debit cards and PayPal as payment method and we decide for PayPal. On the right, we see an overview of our order and the Fiverr service fee of 5.5%, which is charged for every order.

Once we have confirmed the payment, a receipt is sent to our email address and we still have to answer a few questions about our requirements for the service. Once we have done that, the order is sent to the seller and we can sit back.

We can find and track the placed order in the menu under Orders. There we can see order details such as the expected delivery date and the order status. We can also book further gig extras there, such as additional revisions afterwards.

After one day we receive on time the delivery of the logo design from the commissioned vendor. It contains all the necessary files and the order is now in the status “Check delivery”. We basically like the logo, but there are still some small details that bother us. We ask the vendor to make these changes and initiate a revision included in the order. Now we have to wait again. And lo and behold, after a short time we receive another notification by e-mail that a delivery is ready. All changes were taken over by the salesman in such a way as we imagined. We thank them and mark the order as completed. Now we can still write to the seller via chat, but we can no longer request revisions. If we were not satisfied, we could have requested further revisions or cancellation of the order. To do this, we would have to click on the small blue box at the top right of the order and select Resolution Center. There we have the option to ask the seller to cancel the order. Since the seller can also refuse this, it is important to clearly describe the cancellation in a factual and polite manner. If he does not accept the cancellation request, we would need to contact customer service. If the seller accepts the request, we would be refunded the money and the order would be cancelled. However, this would also mean that we would lose all rights to the service already provided and would not be allowed to use the logo.

If the order had not been delivered by the seller on the specified delivery date, the order would have been marked as late. We would then have the right to cancel the order if we received no further response from the seller.

Fiverr Pro & Learn

In addition to the normal Fiverr platform, there is the Fiverr Pro platform. It is identical to the normal Fiverr platform except that only Fiverr verified and selected sellers can be seen there and as a Fiverr Pro customer you get premium customer service with one hour response time. However, it is also possible to book Fiverr Pro services through the normal Fiverr platform.

In addition to Fiverr Pro, you can find Fiverr Learn under Discover. A video platform from Fiverr on which experts offer video courses on all kinds of topics, most of which can also be purchased on Fiverr as a service. If, for example, you would rather teach yourself how to create a website so that you can maintain it yourself in the future, a video course on this is a good alternative to booking an expert on Fiverr to implement it for you.
