How does Gorillas works? (Tutorial): Food deliveries in under 15 minutes

You need spontaneously certain food or simply have no time or desire to go shopping in the supermarket? Then Gorillas is something for you. Using the app, you can simply put together your groceries and have them delivered to your home within a few minutes. In this tutorial, I'll explain exactly how it works, what's possible, and whether it's worth the price.

Table of Contents

First, I’ll give you an overview of exactly what Gorillas is and how it’s priced. Then we’ll set up the app and take a close look at the interface so we understand where to find what. After that, I’ll also show you exactly how to place an order and how it’s then delivered. Finally, we’ll take a look at the settings and I’ll draw a conclusion as to what my personal opinion of the service is and whether it’s worth it in terms of price.

Overview & Price

Gorillas is an app that allows you to order groceries online and have them delivered to your door within minutes. The purchase is handled directly via Gorillas itself, which is why the assortment cannot keep up with the large supermarket chains, but depending on the location, it definitely covers the essentials. While we’re on the subject of location, Gorillas is currently only available in selected major cities and via the link in the description, you can see an up-to-date map of where Gorillas is currently available in Germany. As for the prices, it must be said that with me bspw. fruit & generally fresh products compared to normal supermarkets is somewhat more expensive, but bspw. ice cream or other dry products were partly even slightly cheaper. You also pay for each purchase a delivery fee of 1.8 €, where you have but no minimum order value or so. If you want to try the service, you can also find a discount code from me in the video description, where you get 5 € discount on your first purchase, so check it out.

We can easily download the app from the Apple AppStore or Google PlayStore, link also in the description. When we open the app for the first time, we need to create a free account, which can be easily done with our Facebook, Google or Apple account, or traditionally by mail and password. After that, we can directly use the app normally.

Interface

Once we have opened the app, the first thing we should do is enter our address in the upper left margin, where the purchases will be delivered. This is important to set first, because it affects the assortment and delivery time, which we can find on the right margin. On the home page we can then directly start searching for groceries from different categories, where above we also see current offers and, for example, the opening hours in our area. Using the search in the lower menu we can also search for a specific product. Once we have clicked on a product, we always see one or more thumbnails, where we usually see the nutritional information and ingredients list as a picture, as well as the price, the quantity and we can add it directly to our shopping cart. We can also save the product as a favorite via the heart at the top right edge, which we can always call up via the heart in the menu. This is mega handy when we want to order the same things over and over again. About the shopping cart, we then see all our added items and can complete the order, more in a moment. In the last menu item we have our account, where we can see our current balance and here, for example, also directly enter a voucher code, where you can redeem for example mine from the video description to get 5 € credit for your purchase.

Generally current coupons for Gorillas and many other products, for which there are tutorials on my channel, you can also find on simontutorial.com/coupons

Finally, we can also manage our addresses here and access the settings. Here we can also see our last orders at the top and open their overview, as well as easily reorder the same things.

Order & Delivery

If we have now searched for products and simply added them to our shopping cart via the plus, we can look at all of them again via the middle item in the menu. Here we can also easily remove products again, as well as add several of them. On the upper right edge we can also empty the entire shopping cart and on the lower edge we see the price of all currently added products. Once we have added everything we want to buy, we simply click on “Checkout” where we can make further settings for our delivery. Here we can specify whether the ordered items may simply be left in front of the door, or whether the doorbell may not be rung, or whether we should be called beforehand when the supplier:in is there. Special requests for delivery we can also enter here, as well as see our price composition with delivery fee, credit and vouchers, which we have previously added in the app. Using the coupon code in the description, you also get a €5 discount on your first order. At the very bottom, we can see and change our delivery address again. However, it may be that some products are then no longer available, because they are religion-dependent. Therefore, always enter the delivery address correctly before ordering on the start page of the app. In the right margin we can now add our payment method, where we can pay once with PayPal or a credit card. Once we have placed the order, we see the current status of this, with an estimated delivery time. Below we also see again all our ordered products and our driver or driver, which we can also contact if something should go wrong with the delivery. Once you have received the delivery, practically in a paper bag, you can also rate the order in the app and order again if necessary.

Account settings

We now find the settings of our account in the last menu item. Here we can manage our credit cards, which we use as a payment method, as well as use the app in English or German. We can also enter a company name and VAT number here, in case we want to deduct the purchases for tax purposes when we make a purchase for professional reasons, for example. Finally, we have the option to set our account information, i.e. name, cell phone number, gender, date of birth and email address, and we can also log out with our account at the bottom or delete the account completely.

Conclusion

But is Gorillas worth it now? After using it a few times, I have to say that for me the biggest plus is the enormously fast delivery. I have always received my orders in a maximum of 5 minutes, but of course this is also very dependent on your location. What I also really liked is that in my delivery area you can even order things from the bakery and special grocery stores or restaurants easily as well. While we’re on the subject of assortment, I’m sorry to say that you have a very limited selection here, which can’t compete with a conventional supermarket. That is also the reason why I basically continue to shop in the normal supermarket. Also in terms of price, it is much more expensive than when you go shopping normally. Once you always have the delivery fee, which can make up quite a bit for small orders and most products were always a bit more expensive than in the supermarket. You can also mostly only order small quantity, where you also do not get quantity discounts. This sounds very much like complaining at a high level but the small price differences add up enormously, for example, over a month. Whether that is worth it, everyone must decide for themselves. I personally go bspw. continue normal shopping, but if I spontaneously times what is missing, then I fall back on Gorillas and there the price difference is worth it to me. For small purchases, if you want to get snacks for a movie night or quickly organize a delicious breakfast with things from the bakery, then I find Gorillas also ideal, especially because of the super fast delivery time. In my opinion, it cannot yet replace the supermarket itself.

Now you know how you can easily get your purchases delivered to your home. Enter this discount code: SV984164 in the app, you will also get a whole 5€ discount on your first purchase.
